| Imitrex is prescribed for the treatment of a migraine attack with or without the presence of an aura (visual disturbances, usually sensations of halos or flickering lights, which precede an attack). The injectable form of Imitrex is also used to relieve cluster headache attacks. (Cluster headaches come on in waves, then disappear for long periods of time. They are limited to one side of the head, and occur mainly in men.) Imitrex just shortens the duration of these headaches. It does not reduce the number of attacks you experience.
Imitrex is available in tablets, injection, and a nasal spray to suit your personal needs, as well as different types of migraine attacks. That means if your doctor prescribes you this medication, you may have a choice of how to take your medicine. Imitrex is not addictive and does not cause drowsiness.
Your migraine pain can be relieved while you remain active, alert, and in control. |
