| Nexium decreases the amount of acid produced in the stomach and is also used to treat ulcers, heartburn, erosive esophagitis, and other conditions involving excessive stomach acid production.
The safety of Nexium was evaluated in over 10,000 patients (aged 18-84 years) in clinical trials worldwide including over 7,400 patients in the United States and over 2,600 patients in Europe and Canada. Over 2,900 patients were treated in long-term studies for up to 6-12 months.
The most common, but still very rare, side effects of Nexium are:
